The atlas is a great tool for everybody. It is wonderful to be able to visualize the wealth of geographic information in this format. The atlas will provide communities with tremendous insight into how different development choices may impact watersheds, transportation networks, wildlife habitats, and other features.

Natural Resources Digital Atlas

 NRDA maps image

The Natural Resources Digital Atlas is an easy to use application that places a collection of interactive maps, mapping examples and planning support at the users' fingertips.

The Metropolitan Council has developed the Digital Atlas to assist communities and other organizations and users in the Twin Cities metropolitan area of Minneapolis and St. Paul to identify and protect regionally or locally significant natural resources. The tool will help communities answer questions such as:

  • Where might be the best place to site a park in our community?
  • What significant natural resources are within our borders?
  • If we zone this land for residential development, will we lose any aggregate resources?
